frequently asked questions
Can you fix my aluminum fuel tank? Yes! the majority of fuel tanks we repair are aluminum.
Can you fix a badly corroded fuel tank? Sure thing! We can usually clean an area and weld in a brand new section of similar metal to permanently fix the leak.
Can I just use epoxy or fiberglass to fix my fuel tank? We wouldn't recommend it. A lot of the repairs we see have epoxy that didn't properly adhere and failed very quickly or immediately after application. What's more, this almost never works at the location of the tank straps, so it would be best to have a welded repair performed.
Do I have to take the fuel tank off the truck? To take advantage of our awesome rates and quick turnaround time, we require draining and removing the tank se we can come and pick it up. We are able do some field repairs, but in a smaller service area than our regular pickup and delivery zone. Give us a call if you want to see about scheduling a field repair.
Does the fuel tank have to be empty? As much as possible, please drain all of the fuel out of the tank. There will usually be a small amount left, and this is OK.
Can you fix my tank same day? Can you deliver on the weekend? Yes. Our standard service delivers the tank back to you on the next 1-2 business days, but if you need it sooner, we do offer guaranteed same day, next day and weekend delivery options. Just ask us!
Do I have to clean my tank before you pick it up? Leave the cleaning to us. We actually prefer to do the cleaning as part of our service.
Where are you located? And can I bring my tank to you? We have several locations that we work out of, but are not accepting drop-offs yet. Call us and we can usually arrange to meet you somewhere if it isn't convenient to meet at your location.
Can you add ports to my tank? Yes! We can easily add pipe ports, or bungs, to an existing tank.
Can you convert a fuel tank into a hydraulic tank? We sure can! We have ports up to 2" NPT and hydraulic filler/strainer/breather assemblies we can add.
Can I use a MIG spool gun to fix an aluminum tank? Yes, but a number of repairs we make are fixing MIG spool gun welds that have failed. Aluminum is fickle, and certain care must be taken to ensure stress cracks do not form. We use the TIG process to ensure a clean, strong, and long lasting repair.
Can I weld my own fuel tank? Well, is it worth the risk? Diesel fuel is combustible, and can ignite with the high temperatures made during the welding process. Diesel fuel will generally ignite instantly in the presence of an arc. We have redundant safety procedures to ensure our safety, and the structural integrity of the repairs we perform. Why not have us take the guesswork and risk out of the equation for you?
Do you perform gas tank repair? Yes, in some cases we can make welded repairs on gas tanks. Give us a call to see if we're able to accommodate your needs!
